I've noticed 4est has 14 novices this week and last signed in on Aug. 20. The account is also closed.

Why has he got novices? That's not right.

I'm not sure if it's happening with any other accounts that are not signing in/closed.

Yes, this is definitely a bug.  David needs to be informed of this ASAP.  We can't have novices looking for support for someone who doesn't come here anymore.

He doesn't really have any novices. It's just that when he closed his account the server might have had an issue and not removed the entry.
