I should have applied long ago, but I never really bothered. I finally got my act together and did it this past 2 weeks. Reason: I have always had a great passion towards computing and technology in general. I remember sitting with my dad when we got our first laptop, that was running Windows 95. I always thought to myself how cool they were, and how so much can fit into such a small enclosure. I have been using computers for many years now, and I am very familiar with Windows, and have been using OS X for nearly three years now. I have a great and diverse knowledge about many fields in technology, even the legal areas concerned with copyright and 'stealing' music. So it comes as no great surprise then that I love to help people. I find it fun and interesting when I can help someone with a problem. Even from afar like on LW, and in real world situations. Some people find it annoying when you're a techy person and everyone bothers you for help. I don't. I feel proud that I get to help people and actually make a viewable difference. Even if the situation is not resolved, I know that I tried my best, and that the Livewire user will know that. I love everything about technology, and I can't get enough of it. This alongside my great enthusiasm to help people is why I want to become a Tech SL. It may just be a label to some, but with such insignia the broader community of Livewire will able to recognise me as someone that can offer helpful and accurate replies about their technological woes. Sometimes I see stupid or incorrect replies to topics relating to technology, and being a Tech SL I would have more of an authority to explain a better or more correct route for solving the person's problem. I have been a Livewire member for over a year, and have had nearly a year active. My time to help people with my understanding of technology is long overdue, and in some respects I'm slightly sad I didn't spend so much time writing quality answers. Reasoning: I've always looked up to Support Leaders. Even in the early days of my membership when I was quite naive. I didn't really know what they did, but I thought it was nice to have people that provide genuine support for those that need it. I think I've filled out two or so PSL applications, and both of these were way back during this time. Since then I've come to understand and fully appreciate the amount of effort and time that Support Leaders invest in not only the eHelp system, but the Serious Forum as well as the other general help forums. The eHelp system is unique to Livewire, and is one of the reasons I'd like to become a Peer Support Leader. As a normal member I can contribute to topics and give supportive replies in the forums, but I cannot access the eHelp system. I've read through lots of past eHelps, and I've even asked a question on it myself. There are no amount of words that can really explain how amazing the Support Leaders are that contribute to the supportive aspect of the website and how appreciative I am personally when I was in my time of need. I'd love nothing more than to become one of them. I'd like to help out and give something back to the community that I've been a part of for over a year. I feel slightly disappointed that I wasn't so determined to do this before, because I can give amazing advice, I just have to work at it and go that extra mile. I'm not going to say I've had a hard life, because there are so many other people just on Livewire that I can be compared to that would put my words to shame. I've had a nice life, but I've also grown up with problems of my own. These problems that I've gone past and battled through, problems that I can give advice for to others in similar situations. Growing up as the middle child with and older and younger sister wasn't easy for me personally. I always felt like I had to battle for the attention of my parents, and even when I got I felt like they didn't pay that much attention to me. It was hard, but I pulled through it. I have quite a lot of experience I can apply from this, as well as the friendships that I had to fight through. I can use this to apply to a variety of situations, and I am confident I'll be able to help in not only the eHelp system, but the Serious Forum and the general forums. But this application isn't about me as a person, and it shouldn't be. This is about helping others, and that's what it should always be about. I'm glad that this position is hard, I've seen many people get rejected and it's for the better. A strict selection process allows the members to be sifted through to make sure only those that can really contribute and those that are really dedicated can get a place. Being a Peer Support Leader isn't an easy nor a simple job, and I fully understand that. We do need members of high calibre to answer to eHelps, because they are supposed to offer critical help to members in need, not some third rate answers that you may be able to find in the general forum area. I love Livewire. I spend a great deal of time here, and I think that I have a personal obligation to be able to offer help to those that need it the most. I'm on here almost every single day, so I should at least give something back to the community that's helped me before. I could do this as a normal member, sure, but being a Peer Support Leader will allow me to answer eHelp messages as well as reply directly to the Serious Forum. With the Support Leader title members will see that and it will allow them to put greater faith in my advice and in me. I feel that I will be able to become a great Support Leader, one that people will be able to rely on and trust. Tavis Submitted: Aug. 29, 2008 at 10:34pm Accepted: Aug. 29, 2008 at 10:49pm TECH SUPPORT LEADER Reasons: Disclaimer: Well, I really doubt that I will get this because I don't have much tech support links, in fact, no more then 2 that are of decent length, plus I've heard it's very difficult, but I want to try and push this fact aside. I plan on winning you over in this little section. My past: I've experienced a lot of technilogical things within my life. My father teaches Communication Technology at a high school level, so I have been fortunate to gain a lot of experience with him. He's shown me almost everything he knows, and even more recently, I'm the one who is showing him about newer technology. I can't say he doesn't know a lot, but I know a lot as well, and he's said he's proud I'm one of his sons that follows in knowing his technilogical stuff. He has another son, also plays to my advantage in learning. He is SilverDoor, a member on this forum, and he has shown me how to take apart almost anything to fix it, and put it back together. If someone was to ask me how to take apart a ps2, I could take out one of my own, and walk them exactly through it, to clean the laser, and rebuild it back to perfect health. Him and I have seemed to make a small project out of it, fixing systems and cleaning lasers. The last of my experience I have recieved is simply from owning it. I've owned a computer for 5 or so years, and the family currently owns every new system (Ps2, Wii, 360, Ps3, plus two DSs). Owning systems have given me a massive amount of experience, and has made me able to navigate my way around a system without much difficulty. What I can do: Well, as said, I can take apart Ps2s, Wiis (toughest of the systems to take apart, involving a special screwdriver that we had to order online to unscrew things), and learn quickly when looking around a new system I've never explored. I can, with very little difficulty, as I had to yesterday, install RAM, Fans, Video Cards (+ Drivers), and pretty much any part of a computer. I can create simple websites. I know this isn't much of an accomplishment, but because my education has only gone so far to date, I haven't learned how to use much more then Dreamweaver. I plan on continuing to learn more about web site design as my education expands, and plan on running a website with a friend of mine as a career possibility. Not only am I good at taking things apart , but also inside systems. My desktop is blank, because I've configured it to be more organized, have it on my toolbar, I am very organized within my documents, I can find and fix most issues on a computer, and on programs such as iTunes (as a post of mine demostrates). I am most likely forgetting a lot, but these are some of the more recollectable highlights I have. Why do I want this? Well, either way, I will help out members with technical difficulties, but people underestimate me, because I don't have this status. I am very knowledgable on the technological things I know, and I will admit, my weakness, is not knowing much about every single tech issue, but instead, knowing my fullest potential to the subjects I do know. I feel that this great detailed knowledge is what makes me feel I deserve this title, and would no doubt help my chances of helping other members technically. Plus, if it makes any difference, I'm creating a facebook application with another member, along with other things, as a part of the 8 members of the LiveWire Advertising team. After deciding to mend my ways, I think deciding to apply to become a Support Leader would be the next best step. I am very helpful, when there is an actual problem. I believe my replies show this. I think I should be given the label and privilege of a Support Leader because I actually like helping people. It gives me a sense of accomplishment. And, like other teens on this LiveWire, I have had problems too. Having experience with different subjects greatly helps the kind, and amount of support you can give others. I understand what kind of support you need to give, and the amount of time and energy that I would need to put into helping others. I also understand this is a privilege, not a right, and should not be taken for granted. I would not disappoint if I was given the privilege to be a Peer Support Leader. I know I have not been the most supportive member in the past, but after deciding that I was wasting too much time posting in topics that did not require support, I could be using that time to be helping people. This of course, reinforces what this site is all about, helping others. Please consider my application, Peter http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-yeysbsp-support-a.html#12 http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-yeynspp-support-a.html#12 http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-yeypeba-support-a.html#9 http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-yeytses-support-yn.html#24 http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-yeypsto-support-a.html#15 http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-yeypnst-support-a.html#13 http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-yeybtot-support-a.html#8 http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-yeaebyt-support-a.html#7 http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-yeyiyaa-support-a.html#2 http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-yeyobty-support-a.html#10
