I've always wanted to go abroad but never had time, and now I've got nothing tying me down except my lease (which actually ends July 31st and I could most likely find someone to sublet), and I found a teach English in Thailand program.It starts May 1st so I really don't have any time to waste!

I've got 2 friends that have taught English in Asia, so I asked both what their experiences were like, and overall both said that it was a really great experience. So I looked into it, and found a program for teaching in Thailand.

I'd really love to do this, the only thing is, I don't have the funds. One of my friends used GoFundMe to help finance her studying abroad. I was thinking I could do the same...but how does one do that? How do you ask family and friends to give you money like that? And are the campaigns public so perfect strangers can donate? I figure I need around $3000 as a startup (application fee, program fee, flight, a bit of money for when I get there). I know it's a lot, but do you think it can be done?

Anyone done anything like that before? How was it? Did you go through a certain program?

Quite a few teaching jobs will pay for your airfair, try Japan or Korea. Thailand has some as well. Do you havea Tesl certificate, and or a degree?

I'd be doing all of this through a program so unless the school they place me at reimburses me for airfare, it's on me. I don't have TESL, TEFL, TESOL or anything, but I do have a degree.

I also have looked at places other than Thailand...China, Myanmar, South Korea...but I want to go to Thailand.

I'm not interested in Japan. At all.

Not really sure why you're trying to make me change my mind...I'm not looking for money, I'm looking for an experience. It's not like teaching abroad is what I want to do with my life, it's just what I want to do right now.

And like I've said, I'm going through a program, so there is guaranteed job placement;

You aren't going to change my mind about what I want to do. Even if you said Thailand sucks don't go there, I'd trust my friend over some random guy on the internet...

You didn't even catch on to the fact I am IN Thailand, by choice because I love it here, and linked you to JOBS in THAILAND that give you free airfare and a place to stay... good luck. Hope you enjoy the crappy slave job they are putting you into where you need to pay your own airfare and room. I have erased my advice so you won't have to be offended by it anymore.

I did catch the fact that you're in Thailand by choice...but you're still a random guy on the internet. Can you actually argue with that? I've never met you, I don't know you're name!

I'm sure it won't be some "crappy slave job"...and the program I'd be going with provides housing, and it up to the school you;re placed at if they want to reimburse you for the airfare which really isn't that much anyway...around $500 which is what I paid to go to California from New York multiple times!

There's a reason I want to go through a program such as if I do get placed in a "crappy slave job" I can be placed elsewhere, I get help getting my visa, there is support both in the US and Thailand, health insurance etc. It's not just going there with a job, It's going with a job and a whole host of other things.

Teach in red oppressive dictatorship china. Parents are willing spend tons even though there'll be little effect in improving English.

To set up a GoFundMe Campaign for others to give you money for your travel to teach somewhere, you will need a very PERSUASIVE REASONINGS  as to why others will Give You FREE MONEY.

--> Here is a VERY PERSUASIVE APPEAL for a Student Trying to Come to the U.S. for Education at CUNY (City University of New York)<--
