You mean that you conform your views on the world into alignment with those you perceive to be the norm?

Would you jump off a cliff if everyone else was?

How many people have to say that the line on the left is equivalent to #3 for YOU to believe it?

Jumping off a cliff is kinda different to saying a line is like another line.

I dunno, a lot I guess, I'm not prone to that sort of thing but a lot of people are.

Wikipedia:

In the control group, with no pressure to conform to confederates, the error rate was less than 1% [...] Overall, in the experimental group, 75% of the participants gave an incorrect answer to at least one question

Now tell me again how democracy is a reasonable system of government

75% gave the wrong answer to at least one question, but how many times did they already give the right answer?

Maybe they just felt like saying it for the hell of it. Maybe they weren't sure if they understood the question. Maybe they were tired of saying the different thing every time. And add into that some wish to not be the odd one out every time.

Sounds pretty normal to me.

shhh, come on now, you can't expect kidd rune to be able to understand how people work. poor sod is so socially retarded it's no wonder he can't grasp the basics of human psychology.
Dr Polio why would someone lie just to fit in? What is your official diagnosis?

It is "Normal" to lie about something so obviously false?

To me it's seems like a case of intense retardation, for which there may be no cure...

Yes it is 'normal'. In fact, this is the very normalising force that we are talking about.

You say that's no sane way to behave. But it's no less sane than supposedly 3 other people who don't see what should be obvious. So the occasion calls for it.

It might be 'normal' but definitely not rational in the slightest.

The actors sometimes said the right answer you know, it was mixed up.

You really don't think people believe things just because others do? I wouldn't have answered any of the questions wrong.

So the occasion calls for it.
A question was asked and there was only 1 correct answer. A wrong answer was given simply because some other people said it. That doesn't justify giving a wrong answer at all, if you think about it logically. You are just dismissing these experiments that prove what we already know: people will accept lies if they think everyone else believes it.

How do you think every major retarded religion survived for so long?

because people like you weren't loved by their mothers quite enough to get rid of that awful Oedipal complex?

you know kidd rune, if you just happen to randomly be walking through a field and you see a shitload of people running and screaming and jumping off a cliff, there is a pretty good chance you should also run off the cliff, because it is likelier that there is something deadly chasing these people and the cliff is somehow survivable than for a shitload of people to just collectively kill themselves for no reason.

you like the whole evolutionary mambo. i posit that the ability to suspend our belief in the correct performance/interpretation of our senses and to trust a group of humans with no discernible interest in deceiving us has been an evolutionary advantage that has saved millions of humans that ducked without seeing the rock, ran indoors without hearing the tiger and ran up the hills without seeing or knowing what a tsunami is, etc.

call it the "shit, i guess i'm wrong about my assessment, let's trust these fellow humans" instinct.

seeing how if you had that instinct, you'd instantly look at every topic you've ever made and think "shit, i guess i'm a completely racially obsessed dick making a fuss about nothing", and since you haven't in all these years, obviously, you'd be in the 25% that doesn't get any answers wrong. which explains why you're so utterly confused about how this could possibly be useful--seems you cannot even conceive it.

me, i've seen it saving cars from running into potholes or fallen trees they can't see at night all the time from my balcony.

assuming you're not in the 1% that just misses on their own, of course.

But that's the issue here. The shepherds have every interest in deceiving us because it benefits them.
