What are informal / formal warnings?
Informal and formal warnings are the primary way LiveWire moderators enforce the guidelines. Most all users will have some type of informal warning throughout their stay here at LiveWire, and it is our hope that the informal warning will prevent us from going to the more drastic step of formally warning the user.
What happens when my account is informally warned?
The purpose of an informal warning is to inform the user that they are breaking a guideline. With that said, absolutely nothing substantial actually happens to your account. However, once you've been sent an informal warning, the acting moderator will note it on your profile so other moderators are aware that you've been talked to about whatever the infraction may be.
What happens when my account is formally warned?
If you've failed to yield to a informal warning, or you've done something that is especially disagreeable. eventually your account will be formally warned, and your name will appear murky brown on your profile, posts, and private messages for the duration of your formal warning (up to 4 days, or as short as 24 hours). You will, as well, temporarily lose 500 points. However, depending on how the warning is ultimately cleared, you will regain the large majority of those points. If your formal warning is cleared by the system, you will regain 425 points, with 75 penalty points being attached to your account permanently. If your formal warning is cleared manually (early), you will regain 475 points, with 25 penalty points being attached to your account permanently. Along with the penalty points and the change in color, you will be unable to send messages at a quick pace (no quicker than 180 seconds), unable to create more than one new topic every 24 hours, and unable to comment on pictures.
